What: Meharry Medical College's Center for Women's Health Research will host Alice Randall, an award-winning author, for the national rollout of her innovative mobile app to help fight obesity and diabetes. In addition to unveiling the app, Randall will share health lifestyle tips from her new book, Ada's Rules, with a group of women—called "Ada's Army"—who have read the book and adopted its suggested healthy lifestyle changes. The event is Wednesday, March 6, at Meharry's Learning Resource Center Lecture Hall.

Randall's new book, Ada's Rules, follows the narrative of Ada Howard—a day care provider, preacher's wife, mom of two, and caregiver to her ailing parents—as she provides the keys to a woman's health and beauty revival. Readers travel on a journey with Ada as she gains a new perspective on life and offers tips for a healthy life.

Called "Ada's App," the mobile tool rewards users for following a checklist of powerful pro-health habits that help them focus on health and wellness while motivating them to make lifestyle choice that prevent obesity and diabetes. Ada's App also connects users to outside health resources from the National Institute of Health and the Black Women's Health Imperative. The app is available for free both the iPhone and iPad.

Randall has authored three additional books, The Wind Done Gone, Pushkin and the Queen of Spades, and Rebel Yell. Her passion for writing music led her to become the first African-American woman in history to write a number one country song. She is a graduate of Harvard University.
