Meharry Medical College Appoints a New Interim Dean of the School of Medicine and Acting Senior Vice President of Health Affairs
Meharry Medical College has announced the appointment of Marquetta Faulkner, M.D.,
M.B.A., FACP, FASN to serve as interim dean of the School of Medicine and acting senior
vice president of Health Affairs. This administrative change comes as the former
dean, Charles P. Mouton, M.D. has departed the role to pursue other opportunities.
Dr. Faulkner is a 1981 graduate of Meharry who completed her residency at Hubbard Hospital. She has been with Meharry for 25 years, joining the faculty as an assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine in 1989 and becoming chief of nephrology in 1992. She then went on to serve as medical director of the Meharry-DCI Chronic Hemodialysis Unit in 1997 and medical director for the Meharry Medical Group in 2003. Most recently, she served as associate dean of Graduate Medical Education, vice-chair of the Department of Internal Medicine and assistant chief of service at Nashville General Hospital.
Dr. Faulkner will serve as interim until a new dean and senior vice president of health affairs is hired. Meharry plans to initiate an executive search for the role.
