Meharry Medical College Appoints New Members to Executive Leadership Team to Advance Mission and Vision
Peter Edmund Millet, Ph.D., HSP will serve as Executive Vice President; Veronica Thierry Mallett, M.D., MMM as Senior Vice President for Health Affairs and Dean of the School of Medicine and Mr. Patrick Harold Johnson as Senior Vice President of Institutional Advancement of historic college dedicated to service.
Meharry Medical College has appointed three new members to its executive leadership team: Peter Edmund Millet, Ph.D., HSP; Veronica Thierry Mallett, M.D., MMM and Patrick Harold Johnson. Dr. Millet has been named as Executive Vice President, Dr. Mallett as Senior Vice President for Health Affairs and Dean of the School of Medicine and Mr. Johnson as Senior Vice President for Institutional Advancement. Millet and Johnson have a long connection with Meharry and Mallett brings a strong passion for improving health care delivery to underserved communities. All will be intimately engaged in the development and advancement of the storied medical, dental and biomedical research institution.

Peter Edmund Millet, Ph.D., HSP
As Executive Vice President, Dr. Millet will provide strategic vision and leadership to help Meharry build upon its mission of improving the health of underserved communities. He will serve on the Executive Leadership Council (ELC) and be responsible for defining and pursuing institutional priorities and for the oversight and development of the quality and operations of units assigned by the President. In addition, Dr. Millet will develop and lead the implementation of innovative and collaborative solutions in the operations of the College with a critical focus on technology, systems and policy improvement and effective business models.
Dr. Millet comes to Meharry from Stillman College, where he served as President. Prior to this position, he served as the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at the same institution. From 2004 to 2012, Dr. Millet served as Dean of College of Education at Tennessee State University, where he also was the Chairman of the Department of Psychology. At TSU, Dr. Millet and his team were recipients of nearly $20 million in external funding from agencies such as the National Institutes for Health and the State of Tennessee. In addition, he has received extensive leadership training from Harvard University, the Millennium Leadership Institute (MLI), the Hampton University Executive Leadership Summit and the Council of Independent Colleges - Presidents Leadership Institute.
Dr. Millet received a bachelor’s degree in clinical psychology from Oakland University and a master’s degree and doctorate from Ohio State University. He completed his residency at the Medical College of Georgia and an internship at the Elam Mental Health Center at Meharry.

Veronica Thierry Mallett, M.D., MMM
In her role as Senior Vice President for Health Affairs, Dr. Mallett will be responsible for the quality of health care provided at Meharry and for the maintenance of the health service affiliations that help the College provide exemplary training for its students, residents and fellows. As Dean of the School of Medicine, she will serve as the chief academic and administrative officer of the medical school and oversee its academic programs, research efforts, curriculum, student affairs and fiscal management. Dr. Mallett also will be responsible for the academic component of residency programs.
Dr. Mallett has been recognized nationally and internationally for her work in the treatment of urinary incontinence and genital organ prolapse as well as her efforts to reduce health disparities. She joins Meharry from the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso where she served as founding chair and professor since March 2011. Prior to this position, she held faculty positions at Northwestern University, Wayne State University and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, serving in roles including Urogynecology Fellowship Director, Residency Director, Director of Health Care Excellence and Safety, Practice Plan Director and Department Chair.
In addition to her impressive work as a researcher and educator, Dr. Mallett has made amazing strides in bettering health for people of Hispanic origin. Fluent in medical Spanish, she recently worked to develop a new medical school and health science center on the Texas/Mexico border aimed at addressing the critical physician shortage in El Paso and the surrounding community.
Dr. Mallett obtained her bachelor’s degree in Biology from Barnard University and received her M.D. from Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine. She also holds a master’s degree in Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University. She is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery, and has authored nearly 100 articles, book chapters and abstracts.

Mr. Patrick Harold Johnson
As Senior Vice President for Institutional Advancement, Mr. Johnson will work closely with the President to fulfill his vision for the college by building sustainable philanthropic partnerships that will fund academic program development, expand student scholarships, increase opportunities for faculty development, and support infrastructure improvements and expansion. In addition, Mr. Johnson will serve on the ELC and will collaborate with Meharry’s leadership team to develop and implement a new strategic fundraising plan.
Mr. Johnson comes to Meharry from Campbell & Company where he served as a senior consultant and provided counsel for healthcare and higher education clients during times of transition. However, he is not new to Meharry.
From 2007-12, Mr. Johnson served as the college’s Senior Associate Vice President for Institutional Advancement and helped cement relationships with major corporations and foundations, including Amgen, Wal-Mart, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, the Cal Turner Family Foundation, The Kresge Foundation and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. He also built the development infrastructure for a multi-million-dollar comprehensive initiative that supported clinical programs, training and community engagement affiliations with a range of nonprofit, private and government healthcare organizations. Additionally, he was a member of Meharry Senior Management Counsel, where he worked closely with the schools of medicine, dentistry, and graduate studies.
Before coming to Meharry in 2007, Mr. Johnson was the former regional director of development for the University of Tennessee system, which included the Knoxville, Martin, Chattanooga, Memphis and Tullahoma campuses. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Fisk University and completed the Mini MBA program at Belmont University.
