institutional research
The Office of Institutional Research (IR) helps the institutional community work effectively by collecting, analyzing, and distributing quality and timely information; this information assists the administrators and faculty members in planning, developing, and evaluating educational programs and services. We also support the college's strategic planning and accreditation effort which contribute to the fulfillment of the college mission.
Major responsibilities and accomplishments include:
- Implementing a centralized institutional research reporting system (IRRS) that allows an institutional researcher to analyze data to meet the demands of external agencies (SACS, LCME, CODA, CEPH, IPEDS, Title III, and TICUA) and senior managers of the College.
- Updating the annual Fact Book to accommodate frequently asked questions regarding Meharry's students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
- Implementing the Student/Alumni Tracking System to enhance the school's ability to analyze student performances for academic advisement and to document alumni specialties and practicing locations.
- Analyzing student questionnaire surveys for all schools annually. The survey results assist the college in identifying strengths and weaknesses of programs and services.
- Performing data analysis to help the Center of Educational Development and Support (CEDS) document the effectiveness of Meharry's Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) for SACS Self-Study.
- Assessing reliability and validity of course and clerkship evaluation instruments for the School of Medicine.
- In addition to teaching Biostatistics I and II courses to MSPH students in the School of Graduate Studies, the IR Director conducts statistical workshops for the Association of Institutional Research (AIR), and the Southern Association for Institutional Research (SAIR).
