The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Center for Health Policy at Meharry Medical College is strategically housed at one of the nation's oldest and largest, private historically black academic health science centers dedicated to educating physicians, dentists, researchers, public health professionals and health policy experts. Since its inception in 2009, the RWJF Center for Health Policy has been committed to providing leadership in health policy education, training and research to doctoral, medical, dental and graduate students. Through a partnership with Vanderbilt University’s College of Arts and Science, the Center fully supports minority doctoral students pursuing a Ph.D. in sociology, political science and economics. 2016 Summer Institute on Health Policy

2016 Summer Institute on Health Policy

The Summer Institute on Health Policy is a rigorous summer training program for anyone with educational and research interests in health policy and social science, particularly economics, sociology and political science.

The Summer Institute on Health Policy’s first week is taught by Seline Skupinski Quiroga, PhD, Stephani Etheridge Woodson, PhD, Tamira Underiner, PhD, and Robert Farid Karimi, members of Cultural Engagements in Nutrition, Arts and Sciences Research Group, Arizona State University. The course, “The Emerging Importance of Arts to Health Policy and Practice,” will run from Monday, June 13 through Friday, June 17, 2016.

The second week of the Summer Institute in Health Policy is taught byEbbin Dotson, PhD, Assistant Professor, University of Michigan School of Public Health. The course, “Managing People in Healthcare Organizations and Policy Environments,” will run from Monday, June 20 through Friday, June 24, 2016.

The Summer Institute is free to attend and open to the general public, including the entire Meharry Medical College community, students/faculty from other universities and working professionals.

Scholars win big during the 59th Annual Meharry Student Research Day


Congratulations to Health Policy Scholars Rian Cho and Tiffany Turner for being awarded third place prizes at the 59th Annual Meharry Student Research Day. Cho placed third for the School of Dentistry, and Turner tied for third place in the School of Graduate Studies and Research Ph.D. category.

Health Policy Scholar Christopher Watson heads to Ghana as GE-National Medical Fellow

watsonFourth-year medical student and Health Policy Scholar, Christopher Watson, is headed to Ghana for two months to serve acutely ill patients in the western African nation. Watson has been selected as a fellow for the 2015 GE-NMF Global Health Fellows Program and awarded a $5,000 scholarship made possible by the GE Foundation.
