The primary purpose of Student Services is to foster the general well-being of students. We are involved in a wide range of student concerns, including housing and roommate assistance, health care, counseling, student governance, and physical fitness. The efforts of our office are devoted to helping students to adjust to the professional school environment.
Meharry students have the opportunity to develop and participate in community involvement and social and cultural activities. Some of the recent activities include mentor programs, black history activities, Christmas Angel Tree, Pre-Alumni Ball, Men Who Cook, and a Step Show.

There are also a variety of service, social, and special interest student organizations available at Meharry. They include: Pre-Alumni Counsel, Hispanic Student Organization, Student National Medical Association, Student National Dental Association, American Medical Student Association, Ewell Neil Dental Society, African-Caribbean Club, Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi.

Photo-Student ServicesStudent Services is committed to developing and maintaining a diverse and supportive environment that fosters the personal and academic growth of students.  The pursuit of this mission has necessitated our involvement in an array of student activities such as:

  • Orientation

  • Recreation

  • Housing

  • Organizations

  • Health Matters

  • Community Involvement

Orientation at Meharry is a time to greet students and impart some fundamental but very important information that could transition students smoothly into professional school, allowing for successful matriculation to graduation.

Housing assistance is available before and after a student arrives at Meharry Medical College.  Apartment Guides, on-line apartment listings, bulletin boards and other available information makes it easier for a student to find a home away from home.

Health Matters are addressed before a student arrives on campus.  The required physical examination and immunizations are requested in detail; questions and concerns are readily addressed.   A healthy, protected student is a happy, safe student.

Recreation is that change of pace that keeps the stress level manageable.  Intramural sports are an important part of the social agenda at Meharry.  Softball, volleyball, basketball and other activities help keep student life interesting and fun.

Organizations are plentiful at Meharry.  Students can choose from more than 30 approved student organizations with more started yearly.   The student government organization at Meharry is the Pre-Alumni Association.   There are also many professional groups such as the Student National Dental Association, American Student Dental Association, Graduate Student Association, Student National Medical Association, and the American Medical Student Association.  Alpha Omega Alpha and Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Societies and a number of ethnic clubs such as the African-Caribbean and South Asian groups are active on campus.   The Greek representation includes:  Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, Phi Beta Sigma, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta and Zeta Phi Beta.

Community Involvement could have no better exemplification than Meharry’s annual Community Day.  This day allows students from all schools of the college to come together to provide educational and fun activities for the children and their parents of our urban community.   Community Day is usually a part of the National Make a Difference Day activities.  Dental screenings, Health screenings, Health education, mentoring programs and tutoring are but a few of the many community service opportunities provided for our students.
