M-PACT Strategic Plan Update
The proposed goals and objectives for the remaining years of the College’s strategic plan, M-PACT: Meharry’s Plan for Action 2009-2014, have been approved by the Board of Trustees and are posted on this web page
M-PACT for the years 2010 through 2014 includes goals, objectives, outcome measures, and projected resource needs for the strategic pathways to Educational Excellence, Faculty Recruitment, Retention, and Development, Clinical Excellence, Research Excellence, Operational Excellence, Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environmental Effectiveness, and Financial Performance. Work groups for each strategic pathway contributed to development of the strategic plan. The Executive Management Team (EMT) reviewed the plan and made further recommendations before submitting the plan for Board of Trustees approval at the February 2010 board meeting.
Beginning this year, the strategic plan will be linked to the budget planning process. Resources to implement strategic objectives will be considered for funding based on the availability of general operating funds, targeted fund-raising, and/or grants.
The strategic plan will be reviewed and updated annually. The Institutional Effectiveness Committee will assess outcomes of the strategic plan and make recommendations for continuous improvement to the president annually.
A Mid-Year Report of outcomes for the first year of the strategic plan (2009-2010) is also posted for review by the campus community.

About the Strategic Plan
Welcome to the website for M-Pact, Meharry’s Plan for Action 2009-2014. This five year strategic plan for Meharry Medical College was developed over the past year under the leadership of President Wayne J. Riley and Dr. Angela Franklin, Executive Vice President, with input from administrators, faculty, staff, and students.
M-Pact is the outcome of an inclusive, comprehensive process that examined institutional strengths and weaknesses, assessed relevant information about trends in health care and health professions training programs, and identified opportunities for advancing the college’s mission and values. Members of the campus community participated in retreats, focus groups, and work groups to outline challenges, recommendations, and operational strategies that will move Meharry forward over the next five years.
The information on this webpage provides the campus community with a detailed description of the strategic planning process, revised mission, vision, and core values statements, and the priorities for our strategic pathways toward
- Educational Excellence
- Faculty Recruitment, Retention, and Development
- Clinical Excellence
- Research Excellence
- Operational Excellence
- Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environmental Excellence
- Financial Performance
M-Pact, Meharry’s Plan for Action, was approved by the Board of Trustees in September 2009 and was formally implemented in October 2009. As the strategic plan unfolds, our goal is to keep the campus community apprised of progress and strategic plan outcomes through this website.
