The Department of Computer Operations encompasses several functions within Information Technology:

Help Desk: The Help Desk is a central point for service on computers, computer peripherals, telephones, email and computer accounts.

Telecommunications: Telecommunications includes Meharry's telephone system and video conferencing. There are approximately 2000 telephone lines connected through a Nortel Meridian PBX and four video conferencing centers on campus.
- Network Operations: Meharry's data network includes 2200 network connections and 110 network switches. The network is built on a fiber-optic backbone running at gigabit speed. In addition, the network includes more than 25 Windows NT and Windows 2000 servers, including email servers, web servers, file servers, and application servers, while an OpenVMS system houses the main financial and administrative system.
