Endodontics and Oral Diagnostic Sciences
The Department of Endodontics focuses on the study of the morphology, physiology, and pathology of the human dental pulp and periradicular tissues. Areas of study include the biology of the normal pulp and the etiology, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases and injuries of the pulp and associated periradicular tissues.
Didactic evaluations are based on problem-based learning methodologies and emphasize critical thinking about diagnostic assessment and treatment regimens. Self-evaluation is also used to develop students' abilities to critically evaluate their level of competency as a diagnostician and clinician.
The Department of Oral Diagnostic Sciences provides instruction in oral medicine, oral and maxillofacial pathology and radiology. Third and fourth-year dental students rotate through an Oral Diagnosis and Radiology Clinic where they learn to apply skills in diagnosis, treatment planning and radiographic techniques.
