Campus and Facilities

The present dental school building was completed in 1979. Each clinic/lab in it has been recently upgraded and contains state-of-the-art equipment. Dispensing and sterilizing facilities are located for easy access to the students. The SOD's main lecture hall was renovated in 2000 to include the latest audio-visual technology and was named the Iris B. and Wendell E Cox, D.D.S. Auditorium in honor of the donors whose major gift to the College made the restoration of this facility possible.

In addition, the building houses the administrative offices and research facilities of the School of Medicine and the School of Graduate Studies and Research.

Affilated Relationships
While the campus-based Nashville General Hospital Dental Clinic is the principal clinical teaching site for Meharry dental students, the College also has established formal ties to an array of off-campus health care delivery entities to augment the hand-on experiences available to students and residents. The professional contacts with patients at those sites enrich the quality of training while providing exemplary comprehensive oral health care for underserved populations in the Nashville community.

To assure the widest range of such opportunities for its dental students, Meharry has developed relationships with many Outreach programs and Centers where students gain rich experiences in the delivery of basic dental care. Arrangements also have been made for dental residents to provide state-of-the-art oral health care in Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools; at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Nashville and Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and at the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
