The Department of Periodontics provides the pre-doctoral dental student with comprehensive didactic and clinical instruction in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of periodontal diseases. Students are trained to recognize and treat periodontal diseases at various stages of severity and in combination with the phases of comprehensive dental care. Emphasis is placed on the understanding of clinical phenomena in terms of underlying tissue changes and correlation of the basic sciences with the clinical aspects of periodontal disease.
