Funding for MSCI Participants and Loan Repayment Opportunities
Trainees are provided a stipend for partial salary with the remaining covered by their Department.
The MSCI program qualifies for the consideration of the Health Disparities Loan Repayment Program. This program is a vital component of our nation's efforts to attract health professionals to careers in health disparities research. In exchange for a two-year commitment to your research career, NIH will repay up to $35,000 per year of your qualified repayable educational debt, pay an additional 39% of the repayments to cover your Federal taxes, and may reimburse state taxes that may result from these payments. Fort further information go to http://www.lrp.nih.gov/about/lrp-healthdisp.htm
Sources of program funding: The funding for this program is provided by support from Meharry Medical College as well as NIH grants funded by the CREDC program (http://www.ncrr.nih.gov/resinfra/ri_crecd.asp) and other NIH sources and support for the research from the trainees’ mentors. The CRECD program is designed to develop and implement curriculum-dependent programs in minority institutions to train selected doctoral and postdoctoral candidates in clinical research.
