Cancer Biology
Our Goal
The goal of the Department of Cancer Biology is to develop sustainable and innovative research in cancer biology, train students and postdoctoral fellows in cancer research and to play active roles in the fight against cancer especially in minorities. Our faculty and their trainees use innovative biochemical and molecular approaches to elucidate the molecular mechanisms by which various factors including chemicals, environmental factors, genetics and biological agents cause cancer of the breast, prostate, ovarian, leukemia and lungs. To achieve our goal we are partnering with cancer research scientists at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center to develop both basic and translational research projects in the cancers, which largely affect minorities.
