Program in Clinical and
Research Ethics

The Program in Clinical and Research Ethics offers educational resources related to ethical health care and research on the Meharry campus and in local and national programs.  The program’s activities are designed to help increase the involvement of minorities and disadvantaged persons in beneficial health- and research-related processes and outcomes.

One of the programs focal points is a course for medical students on clinical and research ethics.  The course involves speakers from a wide array of health programs addressing issues they encounter in their work as well as student visits to medical and health-related sites for exposure to ethical issues under the direction of preceptors.

An additional focus involves the presentation of local, regional and national conferences providing avenues for people in academic and non-academic research to exchange ideas and strategies for facing the challenges of modern research dilemmas.  Recent conferences have centered on HIV/AIDS and substance abuse research.

Program faculty also engage in research studies related to evaluating the ethics of medical and research practices.
