Mission

Our mission is to provide exemplary comprehensive patient care with a strong focus on health care disparities, consistent with the heritage and mission of Meharry Medical College, and to offer the highest quality educational experiences to medical students and Family Medicine, Preventive, and Occupational residents.

Vision

This department is committed to providing a broad range of training experiences in order to enable graduates from the program to function effectively in rural or urban undeserved settings providing individual patient care and/or caring for the needs of the population. Our physicians, both at the faculty and resident levels, have the responsibility to maintain medical, educational, and administrative excellence in all of their activities. They are encouraged to develop their clinical and public health leadership skills through involvement in one-on-one patient management, population-based health management, scholarly research, oral and written presentations, and publications.

Application Process

Thank you for your interest in the Meharry Medical College Public Health and General Preventive Medicine residency training program. Residency training in this specialty has undergone significant nationwide changes the last few years. As a result, the Meharry program will now accept applicants into a 24 month training program. Applicants must have successfully completed a year of clinical training prior to joining the program. This July, we plan to fill one residency position as follows:

July 2012: We plan to accept one individual in a PGY 2 position. In order to qualify, applicants must have successfully completed an accredited PGY 1 clinical year of training prior to the start date of July 1, 2012. Completed applications will be accepted between January 2 and February 15, 2012, with interviews tentatively planned for early March. The selected candidate will be expected to complete 24 months of combined continuity clinic, academic, and practicum rotations at Meharry. During this time, the selected candidate will be enrolled in Meharry's MSPH program (even if he/she enters with an equivalent degree), and will be required to pay tuition for required courses should funding sources not be available.

We will accept applications directly (via fax and mail only) and will conduct interviews by invitation only. The above position will not be offered through ERAS / NRMP (The Match). If you are interested in applying, submit all of the following to the address below:
