MEHARRY – STATE FARM ALLIANCE

The Meharry-State Farm Alliance was established in 2002 as a joint venture between Meharry Medical College and State Farm Insurance to reduce morbidity, mortality and economic costs associated with motor vehicle crashes through a combination of research, education and public policy designed to promote safe driving practices among racial and ethnic minority populations. This grant was renewed for the grant period, July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009 at one million dollars to continue the work of the Meharry-State Farm Alliance in; teen service-learning, public policy and epidemiological and behavioral research

Child Passenger Safety Center  

The Child Passenger Safety Center, Irwin Goldzweig, MS, PI is funded by the Tennessee Governor’s Highway Safety Office ends September 30, 2008. We anticipate increased funding for the next FY to go to approximately $328,000 for the period October 2008 to September 2009

Ford See Me Safe  

The Ford See Me Safe program, Irwin Goldzweig, MS, PI was funded for just under $200,000 to continue the study of parent and provider education about child passenger safety.

Multicultural Communities Belt Use Toolkit  

The Multi-Cultural Communities Belt Use Toolkit, Irwin Goldzweig, MS, PI was funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for a total of $508,000 over three years ending June 2011 to create a toolkit of motor vehicle safety materials designed for use in racial/ethnic minority communities.
