Seminars & Conferences
Seminars and conferences are offered throughout the year for faculty, students and health care professionals. Programs include geriatric certificate programs, lunch-time lectures, workshops and seminars presented by recognized specialists. Programs are inter-professional by design in order to teach teams of interdisciplinary students to provide holistic care throughout the lifespan. CME and contact hours are available, and programs are offered at several locations including Meharry Medical College, Vanderbilt University, TSU, and the VA in Nashville and Murfreesboro.

The following MCGEC educational opportunities are offered for MMC students and residents:
- Ethnogeriatrics series – classes provided to MS-I students as an introductory exposure to cultural competency and serving diverse populations
- Growth, Development and Aging – a 3-credit course for MS-II students with lectures and small group discussions
- Dental, Psychiatry, Neurology and Family Medicine – lectures, lunch & learn seminars and clinical rotations provide students with more in-depth training in caring for older adults
- Geriatric Student Forum – open to all students, GSF provides unique geriatric training opportunities, and serves as the voice of students interested in geriatrics
- Mentored research projects

Geriatric Student Forum
The Geriatric Student Forum provides information to students about how to effectively diagnose, treat & manage elderly patients, and serves as the voice of students at Meharry Medical College who are interested in Geriatrics. Through seminars and workshops, students learn about important topics like end of life care, cardiovascular disease, neurological disorders and dental care in the elderly. GSF also provides information to students about summer research opportunities and scholarships, internships & conferences. Gerontology Certificate Program
The Gerontology Certificate Programs are offered several times a year at Meharry Medical College and at Veterans Affairs Hospitals (Nashville- live, Murfreesboro & Chattanooga via distance learning). Certificate programs are designed for a multidisciplinary audience of health care professionals who serve older adults. Courses are not in sequence, and no course requires a prerequisite! GCP classes meet for 7 hour- sessions on three consecutive Fridays. 6 Contact hours are awarded for a full day.
