Meharry Medical College Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Announces HCOP Sponsored Summer Mentorship Program

The Meharry Medical College Ob/Gyn Summer Mentorship Program is a six-week program designed to introduce healthcare careers to high school juniors and seniors by pairing them with physicians, residents and nursing staff at clinical sites in order to encourage their pursuit of medicine as a career.  Students also attend lectures from physicians, residents and local community leaders on various topics geared toward their educational and professional growth.

At the completion of the six-week program students are required to provide a five-minute oral presentation and poster exhibit on a medical topic of interest.  The students will also participate in a closing ceremony where awards are given for the top poster presentation.

The program is sponsored by the Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources Administration – Award #5D18HP05283-03-00, Grant # D18HP05283.   

Important dates to remember:

Application release – Tuesday, March 15, 2011
Application Deadline – Friday, April 15, 2011
Program Start Date – Monday, June 20, 2011
