Pediatric Faculty Bio’s
 
 
Dr. Xylina D. Bean is the Chairperson for the Department of Pediatrics and Distinguished W.K. Kellogg Professor of Pediatrics at Meharry Medical College. Dr. Bean is a graduate from the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Medicine and completed her residency at Martin Luther King, Jr. General Hospital in Los Angeles, CA. She is the recipient of many awards including the Angolian Government Award of Appreciation, Southern Christian Leadership Conference/Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Association Rosa Parks Award, and The National Council on Alcoholism & Drug Dependence Community Service Award. She is the author of several publications. Dr. Bean specializes in Neonatology.
 
Dr. Shahana A. Choudhury is an Associate Professor in Pediatrics. She completed her Masters of Science for Clinical Investigators (MSCI) Program at Meharry/VUMC in 2005. Dr. Choudhury specializes in Infectious Disease. Clinical research on HIV and immune responses to vaccines and vaccine preventable diseases is her interest.
 
Dr. Jennifer Ess joined the Meharry faculty in June of 2006 after working in private practice in St Louis for more than 3 years.    Dr. Ess completed her pediatric residency in 2002 at Washington University in St. Louis.  She earned her medical degree from the University of Colorado in 1999.  Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Ess worked as a pediatric nurse. 
 
Dr. Olayinka O. Onadeko is an Associate Professor and Clinical Director in the Department of Pediatrics. He has been a faculty member since 1990 and completed his residency training at Meharry in 1987. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics. Dr. Onadeko is the recipient of the Humanism in Medicine Award in 1998 and 2006. He specializes in General Pediatrics and has a special interest in Asthma in children.
 
Lateesa T. Posey is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Instructor in the Department of Pediatrics. She is a graduate of Rockhurst College, Columbia University and Vanderbilt University. Ms. Posey is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and a fellow of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners.
 
Dr. Brahm S. Parsh is Vice Chair and Associate Professor of Pediatrics. He specializes in General Pediatrics and his subspecialty is Neonatology. He is an American Academy of Pediatrics Fellow and a Senior Section Member. Dr. Parsh is also a member of the Cumberland Pediatric Foundation.
 
Dr. Susanne Tropez-Sims is Associate Dean of Clinical Affiliations and Professor of Pediatrics at Meharry Medical College. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine were she received her Doctor of Medicinedegree and Master of Public Health in Maternal and Child Health. Dr. Tropez-Sims specializes in General Pediatric Care and Adolescent Medicine.
 
Dr. Richard O. White III is an Instructor in the departments of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. He is a native Floridian but has been in Nashville for the past 10 years during which time he completed medical school and residency training at Vanderbilt University. His clinical interests include the diagnosis and management of chronic respiratory illnesses and diabetes in adults and children. He is also interested in health disparities research and ways we can improve healthcare among our minority populations. Dr. White is conversant in Spanish and helped establish a medical clinic in Colombia, South America where he and his wife have been involved in international medical work.
 
 
All Pediatric Faculty are Board Certified.
