Objectives
The objective of the department in undergraduate education is to provide a basic understanding of radiologic methods used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. This is accomplished by a series of presentations by the faculty of the Department of Radiology. Radiographs of normal and pathological entities of the following organ systems are discussed: chest, gastrointestinal tract, bone, genito-urinary, vascular, and the neurological system. Integration of imaging studies with knowledge of the basic and clinical sciences is stressed in evaluating diagnostic radiographic examinations. Formal lectures covering Radiation Therapy, Radiation Biology, Interventional Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasonography, Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and current Radiation Safety are also provided during the rotation. In addition, the risks and cost benefits of the various imaging techniques are reviewed and analyzed in light of health care reform and cost containment. Health care reform and its effect on radiology are also presented.
