The Meharry Medical College Sickle Cell Center is a multi-disciplinary program caring for patients with sickle cell anemia and other hemoglobinopathies with responsibility for the Middle Tennessee region of the State's Newborn Screening program.  The Center includes clinical faculty including a nurse practitioner, genetic counseling and education and the State of Tennessee confirmatory laboratory for hemoglobinopathies.  The center provides expertise in all areas of clinical care, counseling and education for sickle cell patients.  The Center, as part of the State's Newborn Screening Program, provides follow-up for all newly diagnoses infants with hemoglobinopathies assuring that these families obtain appropriate and timely medical management and education.
