Surgical Academic Objectives

SurgeonsThe Department of Surgery is composed of the Divisions of Anesthesiology, Colorectal, Gastrointestinal, General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Ophthalmology, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Surgical Intensive Care, Urology, Vascular and Emergency Medicine. The primary objective of the department is to treat ill and injured patients using contemporary surgical skills, to teach the art and science of surgery to undergraduate and graduate medical students, and to extend the limits of knowledge in this field by engaging in clinical and basic research. In fulfilling responsibilities to improve patient care, the department engages in continuing quality improvements of our affiliated hospitals through various committee activities. The department also actively participates in the community outreach activities of the College.
