Eligibility and Application Process
Eligibility Requirements
Residency Applicants can apply through the ERAS on-line system beginning September
1st. We only accept applications through ERAS.
If you are an International medical graduate:
We do not accept or sponsor any visas and you will need your current and valid ECFMG
certification as well as proof of U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status (a
green card).
Additional consideration will be given to those who have already passed USMLE Step 3 in 3 attempts or less and have clinical US experience in psychiatry. This may include employment, observerships/externships, fellowships, research experience, etc. Externs who have worked with our department here at Meharry Medical College will be given preference.

All applicants must submit the following:
- On-line ERAS application (no paper please)
- Personal Statement
- Curriculum Vitae
- Recent 2x4 photograph
- Two or more letters of reference from U.S. physician faculty
- Dean's Letter
- Medical School Transcript
- USMLE Scores steps 1 & 2, exams be passed in 3 attempts or less (preferred)
- Medical school graduation within the last 5–7 years (preferred)
Additional qualifications such as postgraduate education, graduate level degrees, and fellowships will be given extra consideration.
We cannot estimate your chances, since the selection of candidates is determined by a selection committee decision process. Interviews at the Meharry Medical College are by invitation only. The interview season will begin the end of September and is completed by the end of January.
