Basic Sciences

First- and second-year students enrolled in the four-year curriculum are devoted primarily to classroom and laboratory instruction in the basic and pre-clinical dental sciences through Meharry Medical College's School of Medicine. Courses in microbiology, neuroscience, pathology, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, and nutrition provide an opportunity for dental students to partner and ponder with other scholars, across disciplines.

The interdisciplinary curriculum of didactic and clinical experiences provide a diverse knowledge base, clinical skills, and competencies necessary in the practice of modern general dentistry. The program is also geared to provide a solid base for scientific inquiry and for a lifelong pursuit of continuous education.
