the RISE Career Development office
A scientist's career is about more than test tubes and patient surveys. It is also the art of converting laboratory discoveries into meaningful dialogue; it is the ability to attract funding, to find like-minded scientists, to build the all-important resume, to craft a presentation. The Ph.D. student at Meharry can develop this skill set within the RISE Career Development Office, which opened January 2010. Through workshops, seminars, and one-on-one mentoring, students learn the mechanics of grant writing, CV/resume preparation, paper and poster protocols, presentation skills, and other fundamentals necessary for success in today's scientific climate.
The RISE Career Development Office also publishes a monthly newsletter that celebrates successes among Meharry's Ph.D. candidates and issues reminders of upcoming events/deadlines. If you would like to be added to the mailing list, contact director Letha Woods at lwoods@mmc.edu.
Also contact Dr. Woods for access to the on-line library, where you will find descriptions of books and other material you can download at no charge.
