The Department of Radiology provides a basic understanding of imaging methods used to diagnose and treat disease. Diagnostic imaging of normal and pathological findings of the chest, gastrointestinal tract, bone, genitourinary, vascular, and neurological systems are studied and integrated with knowledge of the basic and clinical sciences. Formal lectures covering nuclear medicine, ultrasonography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and current radiation safety are included during the rotation. In addition, the risks and cost benefits of the various imaging techniques are reviewed and analyzed in light of healthcare reform and cost containment.
