Our anger management classes use a curriculum provided by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, an office within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It combines relaxation exercises, cognitive behavioral therapy, and communication skills interventions.
There are 12, 90-minute weekly sessions. After checking in, group members report on their homework assignments from the previous week and the leader reviews their progress. By the end of the 12 weeks, members know how to combine breathing and relaxation techniques with cognitive behavior (that is, choosing productive behaviors over negative responses), and communicating more effectively.
