Research Interests / Specialty

Dr. Ayman Al-Hendy’s research is concerntrated in the following areas:

(1) Developing localized gene therapy approach for treatment of uterine fibroids.
(2) Evaluating nutritional supplements for the prevention of uterine fibroids including EGCG (Green tea extracts), vitamin D and resveratrol.
(3) Studying the molecular basis of higher prevalence of uterine fibroids in African American women including genetic factors related to estrogen metabolism (COMT gene), diet, environmental toxicology, or physiological factors like vitamin D deficiency.
(4) Evaluating the effect of obesity on initiating and progression of uterine fibroids.
(5) Using gene therapy and stem cell therapy as novel treatment approaches for female infertility
