Professional Education
Dr. Yong Cui received his medical degree from Anhui Medical University (1982), completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Wanna Medical College (1982-1984) and a fellowship in Cardiology at Nanjing Medical University (1987), in China. Dr. Cui further gained his research experience in Clinical Pharmacology at Brown University (1989-1990) and Physiology at the University of Cincinnati (1990-1999) as a research fellow. Dr. Cui entered the field of Preventive Medicine and Public Health in 1999 when he became a resident physician at Meharry Medical College. During the residency, Dr. Cui also earned a Master of Science in Public Health. From 2003 to 2005, Dr. Cui worked as an epidemiology fellow in Molecular/Genetic Epidemiology and Cancer Epidemiology at Vanderbilt University.

Research Interests

Dr. Cui’s research interests include Molecular Epidemiology and Cancer Epidemiology. Several on-going research Projects include:

1) evaluation of stress, psychological consequences, and health-related quality of life among breast patients; 2) use of complementary and alternative medicine among breast cancer survivors and general population;
3) evaluation of cancer screening among low-income population;
4) investigation of roles of genetic variations, environmental risk factors, and their interactions in breast cancer etiology and prognosis, as well as in racial disparities in breast cancer outcomes; and
5) investigation of roles of gene-gene and gene-environmental interactions in other common chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
