Dr. Riley Supports Affordable Care Act
on NPR’s “On Point”

Meharry Medical College President and Chief Executive Officer Wayne J. Riley, M.D., MPH, MBA, MACP served as a guest panelist in favor of the Affordable Care Act on National Public Radio’s “On Point with Tom Ashbrook.” The show which was taped live on Friday, March 29, 2013 at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in front of an audience of nearly 200 people aired nationally on Monday, April 1, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.
Dr. Riley joined former Governor Phil Bredesen and Lawrence Van Horn, Excecutive Director of Health Affairs at the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University in a lively discussion about the implementation of the Affordable Care Act beginning October 1, 2013.Van Horn spoke out against the Affordable Care Act, expressing concerns about its sustainability while Gov. Bredesen brought to light the benefits and the challenges that exist with the onset of enrollment.
Ultimately, the three panelists agreed that in the short run the biggest challenge
will be meeting the new demand on the nation's health care delivery system with 32
million more citizens having greater access.
