Meharry Graduates Go Forth From 138th Commencement

Meharry Medical College introduced its 2013 graduating class of health care professionals at the institution's 138th commencement, Saturday, May 18.

The diplomas awarded numbered 205 including ninety-five doctors of medicine, forty-seven doctors of dental surgery, and ten doctors of philosophy. Fifty-three masters degrees were granted. Six certificates in health policy were awarded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Center for Health Policy at the college.

Addressing the graduating class was the executive director of the American Public Health Association, Georges C. Benjamin, M.D., FACP, FACP(E), FNAPA, Hon FRSPH, who was also awarded an honorary doctorate from Meharry.

Meharry Medical College is the nation's largest private, independent, historically black academic health center whose primary focus is on educating health science professionals. Since 1876, Meharry has been a leading educator of African-American physicians, dentists, biomedical scientists, and public health professionals.
