School of Dentistry 2012 highlights
A new 4,320-square-foot dental simulation center is opening soon in the School of Dentistry. The Delta Dental of Tennessee Simulation Center will use manikins with computer simulators to provide a realistic training experience for students. The state-of-the art dental simulation center is just one reason students and faculty in Meharry’s School of Dentistry are smiling. The dental school is one the move. Highlights include:
- In summer 2012 first-year dental students began working in clinics cleaning teeth, a full two years earlier than their predecessors.
- The Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry celebrates its 125th anniversary this year.
- In 2012 the size of the first-year dental school class increased from 55 students to 60.
- Students from the Meharry School of Dentistry often participate in mission trips in underserved areas outside of the United States. This year students traveled to Haiti and Jamaica to provide dental care for economically disadvantaged patients.
