Dex's Dan Doyle Sr. at Corporate Recognition Reception

DEX Imaging presents $100,000 gift to Meharry

Tampa-based DEX Imaging, a contributor and vendor to Meharry Medical College, announced a $100,000 gift to the college during Meharry's fourth annual Circle of Friends Corporate Recognition Reception.

The gift will fund scholarships in Meharry's School of Graduate Studies and Research (SOGSR)—a DEX Fellow for one M.D./Ph.D. student, and four DEX Scholars for MSPH students.

Speaking before the gathering, Dan Doyle Sr., founding chairman of DEX Imaging, said that when he and his son founded the company, they decided to give 30 percent of their profits to charities and educational programs in the markets they serve as a way of supporting the local economies. With this gift they turned toward Meharry Medical College.

"We're about to embark on having 30 million more people going on medical care and if we're going to do that we're going to have to have more doctors," Doyle told the gatherers. "So, is Meharry important? It sure is. The more we can give to schools like Meharry, the better off we'll be."

Over 75 corporate and institutional supporters gathered at Meharry's New Alumni Hall on November 13, 2012 to celebrate the work and mission of Meharry Medical College. The annual Circle of Friends Corporate Recognition Reception is an opportunity for Meharry to express appreciation for the support of businesses and institutions in the past year, and to turn attention toward efforts for the year ahead.

With Meharry beginning a major growth phase, Dr. Wayne J. Riley, Meharry's president and chief executive officer, told the group he is excited about new building initiatives. "I firmly believe that institutions have to manifest progress in terms of its physicality and not just the quality of our educational programs, which are superb," Riley said. "We know that we would not be successful without your support."

Meharry's main event for contributors—the 17th Annual Circle of Friends Gala—will be held April 18, 2013. Contact Linda Witt, senior associate vice president for development, at 615-327-6724 for details.
