The database administration role maintains the SQL and Oracle databases at the college. Three of the widely known applications that uses Oracle as a backend is Banner, McKesson, and Axium. The database administrator also manages database security, which includes processing the Banner Security Forms once they are received.
Meharry Medical College currently possesses an enterprise license for Oracle. The enterprise license allows Meharry Medical College to create and manage as many databases as needed without having to incur an additional application expense. Oracle is better capable of managing large or medium size databases and offers much more security features than traditional databases like Microsoft Access.
The database administration role is able to offer many services as they relate to data entry and data warehousing. The primary service that is offered is database development and management. If your area is in need of a database to manage your data, the database administrator is available to assist in assessing your requirements and building the database as needed. The database administrator will also help manage the security needs that are required on the database.
In order to gain access to Banner, a completed Banner Security Form is required. The Banner Security Form allows an individual and their supervisor to determine what areas of Banner they will need to be able to access.
