| Biography |
Security professional Theresa McKinnon was appointed Lieutenant of Public Safety and Security at Meharry in August of 2004. She brings 10 years of experience in correctional and public safety to her position.
As the department recognized the need for a Professional Accountability manager, Lieutenant McKinnon was reassigned from shift commander to manage the newly created “Professional Accountability Unit.” She is a licensed commissioned Security Officer trained in Firearms, Defense Tactics (PPCT) and Chemical Agents.
Lieutenant McKinnon was employed with Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) in January 1995 and after completion of basic training, she was assigned to the Medium 1-Team. She also served on the Segregation and Transportation Team at CCA and was later promoted to Transportation Supervisor. Lt. McKinnon served as an Institutional Caseworker and in the absence of her supervisor she would take on the roll of Unit Manager. Lieutenant McKinnon has also worked several years in private security in loss prevention and undercover assignments.
A Nashvillian, Lieutenant McKinnon graduated from Pearl-Cohn Comprehensive High School. She has taken courses at Middle Tennessee State University, Aquinas College, the University of Phoenix, and is presently enrolled in a Bachelor of Arts program at Trevecca Nazarene University.
Lieutenant McKinnon is a graduate of the Tennessee Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Course, Cleveland State College, class of 2005 (Course that is mandatory for all Tennessee Law Enforcement Officer’s Certification). |
