Meharry Welcomes Brenda Green, MLS,
Associate Vice President/Library Director
Meharry Medical College is pleased to announce Brenda Faye Green, MLS, as Associate Vice President/Library Director. In her role, Ms. Green will provide leadership and overall administration, organization, planning and management of library operations. Ms. Green will also provide expertise in introducing innovative and effective technology in library services. In this role she will manage all aspects of library services, collection development, strategic planning, budget administration (including endowments and grants), personnel management, policy formulation and facilities as well as supervise and manage the College Archives and Special Collections Department.
Ms. Green received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mississippi University for Women and a Masters of Library Science Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. She began her professional career at Georgetown University Medical Center Library. She has also held faculty, staff and leadership positions at medical libraries at George Washington University Medical Center, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and, most recently, at Dartmouth College Library where the primary clientele was faculty, staff and students at Geisel School of Medicine, The Dartmouth Institute and the Department of Biological Sciences.
Active in regional and national medical library associations, Ms. Green has held elected and appointed leadership positions in the Southern Chapter of the Medical Library Association (SC/MLA). In 2010, SC/MLA bestowed upon her the prestigious T. Mark Hodges Outstanding Service Award and in 2014 she received the Academic Librarian of the Year Award. She has given 14 presentations during regional and national conferences and has authored 25 posters and/or publications. She currently holds membership in two chapters of the Medical Library Association, the Southern Chapter and the North Atlantic Health Sciences Chapter where she is a member of the 2017 Program Committee and the 2018 Conference Planning Committee. Nationally, she is a member of the 2019 National Program Committee.
In 2013 she served as a member of a Mid-Contract Site Review Team for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine to review contracts of the Middle Atlantic Region and Pacific Southwest Region. Also, in 2017 she was a grant reviewer for the National Network/Libraries of Medicine, New England Region. She has received over 10 funding awards from the National Network/Libraries of Medicine, Southeastern/Atlantic Region in additional to receiving a subaward from the prestigious Institute of Museum and Library Services’ Librarians for the 21st Century grant with Johns Hopkins University as the lead institution.
Passionate about supporting the next generation of health information professionals, Ms. Green has served as a site supervisor for practicum students at the University of North Texas, Department of Library and Information Sciences, College of Information and the School of Library and Information Studies at Texas Woman’s University respectively in 2015 and 2016. These contributions have been recognized by the Board of Directors of the Medical Library Association with their selection of Ms. Green as a 2017 Fellow of the Medical Library Association.

Fellows must have attained notable leadership, outstanding achievement, significant scholarship and have earned a professional reputation as evidenced by peers, literature citations, or fidelity to the MLA Code of Ethics.
