The Meharry Center for Women’s Health Research Will Observe
National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day – March 10, 2008
Educate, Motivate and Mobilize Against HIV/AIDS

(Nashville, Tenn- March 10, 2008) –The Meharry Center for Women’s Health Research has joined forces with the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services in observance of National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on March 10.

A series of events will be held on the campus of Meharry Medical College at the S.S. Kresge Learning Resource Center, 1005 Dr. D. B. Todd Jr. Blvd. The events are designed to broaden the awareness of the significant impact of HIV/AIDS and provide solutions and action steps necessary to continue to fight this disease.

“The Meharry Center for Women’s Health Research is committed to eliminating health disparities that vastly affect women - like HIV/AIDS,” said Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice, dean of the School of Medicine and senior vice president of Health Affairs at Meharry Medical College. “The observance of National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day provides a great opportunity for us all to educate, motivate and mobilize against this disease.”

    Community Forum: “ Breaking a Lethal Silence: Let’s Talk About Our Sexual Health; Women, Relationships and HIV/AIDS ”

Guest Speaker: Dr. A. Oveta Fuller, Associate Professor, Microbiology and Immunology, University of Michigan Medical School

  • 4:30pm
    Memorial and Candlelight Vigil
