Walk-A-Round Campus in Support of the Meharry-Sickle Cell Center

Nashville, TN  - September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month and the Meharry Sickle Cell Center is hosting a series of events to raise awareness, promote health and fitness, and acknowledge individuals in the community dealing with Sickle Cell and/or a family member caring for someone with Sickle Cell Disease. 

The community is invited to participate in A Walk-A-Round Campus at Meharry Medical College, 1005 Dr. D. B. Todd, Jr. Blvd, in support of the Meharry Sickle Cell Center. The walk will take place on Saturday, September 8 at 8:30am – 10:00am and again on Tuesday, September 11, between 8:00 and 10:00am.  Immediately following Saturday’s Walk-A-Round Campus, a Celebration of Life program will be held to recognize those individuals who continue to battle the inherited disease and raise awareness about the Sickle Cell disease that affects more than 72,000 Americans, primarily those of African heritage, but also those of Arabian, Asian, Caribbean, Indian, Mediterranean, and South and Central American descent. 

The walk will start at the corner of Meharry Blvd. and 21st Ave North, Nashville, TN  37208. You may register on-site or pre-register by sending an email to sickle_cell@mmc.edu or by calling 615-327-6763. We are looking for sponsors to contribute $50/walker. Free to participate and donations accepted. The Walk is 0.75 miles (1 round) or 1.5 miles (2 rounds).
