Meharry Medical College (MMC) is dedicated to ensuring the safety of all students, faculty, staff and visitors. MMC carefully reviews and balances the safety implications and rights of the MMC community prior to banning any device. The National Association of Fire Marshals has issued a warning regarding several incidences of hoverboards catching fire and the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is in the midst of a massive investigation into the safety of hoverboards. Taking into account the safety concerns raised by those organizations, and consistent with the steps taken at other colleges and universities, MMC has decided to ban the use of hoverboards on its campus for the safety of its community. This policy outlines MMC's stance against the use of Hoverboards on campus.

Policy Statement

As part of ensuring MMC campus safety, hoverboards are no longer allowed to be charged, operated, stored or used inside MMC buildings or on MMC campus property. Any violation of this policy will result in severe sanctions.
