IACUC Review Procedure

The figure below summarizes the IACUC review procedure. To trigger the review, you must complete a  Protocol Review Form and submit it electronically to the IACUC office in room 2210 of the West Basic Sciences Center.

In addition, participants in your project who will have contact with animals must:

1. Complete online training for animal care and use and
2. Register with Meharry’s Occupational Health Service using the Occupational Health Registration Form.
3. Finally, if you plan to use controlled substances for anesthesia, analgesia, or other purposes, you must apply to the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy for a researcher’s license.  

When these steps have been completed your project will be reviewed by a veterinarian in the Animal Care Facility and then by the IACUC.
