NUTRITION CORE
Women are faced with numerous chronic diseases and conditions that negatively affect the duration and quality of their lives. Nutrition will serve a major role for preventing, improving, and maintaining the health status for women.
Nutrition core professionals strongly support research, nutrition counseling, nutrition education, and Medical Nutrition Therapy and advocacy efforts that will empower women to adopt desirable nutrition practices for optimal health.
As a major part of the infrastructure for the Center for Women’s Health Research (CWHR), we welcome the opportunity to share our expertise with your projects.
The Nutrition Core of the Center for Women’s Health Research will provide four major services: Medical Nutrition Therapy, Nutrition Counseling, Nutrition Education, and Research Proposal Development for research studies planned or underway by Meharry Medical College faculty.
This core can be involved in one or more of the following functions: assisting investigators with nutrition/dietary intervention aspects of the research design, implementation, data collection and analysis; implementing controlled feedings studies (via meals prepared on site or outsourced as appropriate) as well as facilitating and monitoring subject nutrition compliance.
Also, nutrition core will educate and provide training to staff, medical/dental staff, medical nutrition therapy to patients referred by medical doctors, and provide nutrition services to its target communities.
