A Collaborative Effort to Examine Why Asthma Strikes Minorities More Than Caucasians

Meharry Medical College and Vanderbilt University Medical Center have teamed up to try to understand why some minority and low-income groups suffer disproportionately from asthma. The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute awarded a five-year, grant to Meharry and Vanderbilt to establish a new Center for Reducing Asthma Disparities as part of an Initiative creating partnerships between research intensive and minority-serving institutions.
This Meharry/Vanderbilt Center started in 2002 is one of five centers funded in the in the country to address this problem.
