Mission and History of the
Specialized Neuroscience Research Program (SNRP)

The Meharry Medical College SNRP program is part of NIH initiative to enhance the neuroscience-related research capacity of minority serving institutions http://snrp.nih.gov/ . The program was initially funded in 2000 with funding from the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute of Neurological Diseases and Stroke (NINDS) and the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR).  The program has recently been competitively renewed for an additional five years (2 U54 NS041071).  The long-range goal is to engage in bench-to-bedside research, wherein clinical enigmas drive basic laboratory research, and laboratory research provides insights into potential novel therapeutic interventions or at least new understandings into the pathogenesis of neurological and mental health disease, including addictions.

The SNRP Program is an integral part of the Meharry Medical College Center for Molecular and Behavioral Neuroscience.
