About Meharry Medical College Pre-Alumni Association

Mission
The Pre-Alumni Association of Meharry Medical College shall promote a continuously improving relationship between students, faculty, staff, and administration by providing avenues for the sharing of ideas for the good of Meharry and our mutual welfare.  The main objective is to promote a spirit of cooperation. The Association and its members shall actively engage in those activities, which serve to promote unity among blacks and minorities and to provide channels for growth and progress within that same segment.

Focus
The goals of this year's administration are as follows: increase student involvement in Pre-Alumni, promote an open dialogue between the student body organizations and Pre-Alumni, create positive interaction between students of all schools, and improve student facilities. We believe that if students in each of the schools were able to take a more individual role in their student government than not only would participation in events sponsored by the Pre-Alumni Association increase, but also participation in events sponsored by other student organizations would increase. Our approach to addressing these goals is two fold:

  • First, we plan to work closely with other student leaders on campus to involve all students in Pre-Alumni activities and the decision making process.

  • Second, we plan to utilize the student life committee and work actively with faculty and staff to address student concerns.

General Council
The General Council meetings have been well attended this year. This year's administration would like to continue to build a strong student organization network, and provide more support to students through collaborations with other student organizations. Through collaborative projects, the Pre-Alumni Association is able to target specific student concerns and desires by supporting projects that are brought up directly by the student body. By supporting the student organizations we hope to encourage greater participation in Pre-Alumni Association and help foster a sense of family in the student body as we strive to serve our community better.

Pre-Alumni Association Future Goals
The Pre-Alumni Association would like for students to continue to make positive contacts with alumni.  Our goal is to enhance the relationship between the student body and the National Alumni Association in order to foster a more reciprocal relationship between the two organizations, and to ease the transition from the Pre-Alumni Association to the National Alumni Association. We hope to create an active networking system between alumni and students. In this way, students can be encouraged by the wonderful accomplishments of Meharry alumni and be reminded of the importance of giving back to their alma mater.
